Contaminated Groom

Work starts at 11am today and I have 7 hours to kick off this evenings wedding. Morning weather update: 60% chance of rain with a high of 89 degrees. Actual weather outside: Rain and more rain!

Today's wedding was originally booked by another coordinator in the hotel. When she decided to take time off to visit her family up north, I was asked to take over. Our bride paid us a visit two weeks ago to go over all her final information and to have the opportunity to meet yours truly. Before her visit my coworker felt it necessary to give me a bit of a back story on the couple. I was informed that the groom had come down with some kind of rare sickness and had been quarantined for the last couple weeks. The bride had gone into details of how her hubby to be had been stationed on the second floor of the house and she had been instructed not to go near him.

Two days after the bride's visit to the hotel, the groom called and spoke with their original coordinator. I happened to be in her office at the time and got the pleasure of over hearing her side of the phone call. I waited anxiously for the call to end to hear how he was doing. She thought it was odd that he sounded in more than good health and was ready to marry his bride. I spoke with the groom myself for the first time yesterday and oddly enough, he thought it was strange that his coordinator kept expressing concern for how he was feeling. I briefly stated that in actuality, we were both worried since his bride told us he was quarantined with an illness. He sounded a bit confused and said that he had the flu for a few days but that was all. Strange, I know.

Needless to say as their big day has arrived and I’ve strolled into work, I felt the need to mentally prepare with several doses of that lobby coffee I have grown to love. The afternoon goes on and I haven’t one word from the couple. I decided to give them a ring to go over the details of when to meet, since they chose not to have a rehearsal. I spoke with both the bride and groom and to my surprise all seems in order and as normal as can be. In this situation, normal is actually abnormal but I’ll take the easy work day. The bride was about 20 minutes late which, unfortunately for me, is also pretty normal. She makes it down the aisle in her hot pink lipstick and long white gown and although I am still left a bit confused, in the end another couple is married.
