Work begins today with an abundance of coffee. To my advantage, it's free in the hotel lobby which is about 15 steps from my office door. Morning weather update: 50% chance of Rain with a high of 91. This time of year tends to be a little slow for our weddings. There’s something about brides not wanting to get married on the beach in the middle of hurricane season. I suppose the fear of losing their enchanted sunset wedding to a swirling mass of destruction may play part in their decision making.
Here's something funny. I was just talking to a bride on the phone. She has been calling for a few days now with all kinds of questions. No Doubt a necessary action before making that final leap of putting the deposit down and signing the contract. (If only, she were here in person I'd just load her up on the influential bottles of champagne!) We talked about her bar options and she asked if the $35 for the open bar is a per person price. I told her yes that she was exactly right. She in return says "Oh, so I can pick one person who drinks a lot and give it to them as a gift?" Ummm... You remember in school when your teachers would tell you, "there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers"? I'm going to have to disagree with them at this point. Clearly our much wiser former teachers appreciated that line since they were usually the ones asking us questions!
Afternoon weather update: 60% chance of rain with a high of 89. I've done some snooping around at the other hotels out here on the beach. You know, to get a feel for the competition. It turns out, every hotel out here, (not including us of course), has a weather policy put it in place that blows my mind. They say that if there is a 40% chance of rain 4 hours prior to your wedding, then you are moved indoors. I'm looking out my office window at the baby blue colored sky and 3 very minute white clouds and realize that if there were any brides planning to get married at those hotels today, they would be completely out of luck with that 60% chance of rain on the books! In fact, I'm pretty sure that's what the weather says everyday. I can't imagine that any of their brides get to put their toes in the sand for their so called 'Beach weddings'...
